Home to Haunchwood Sports F.C., the Sports & Social Club was built around 1914, and was originally called Haunchwood Colliery Institute, ‘stute for short.
The social club was. and still is, very much the hub of Galley Common, a village community which grew around the development of the colliery.
In 1989, since the demise of the coal mining industry, the members of the social club purchased the club, renaming it Haunchwood Sports & Social Club.
The club has a long history & tradition closely related to sports. Along with the adult & junior football sections, the club also has numerous bowls teams and a number of cricket teams.
